DEUS EX MACHINA x Mr BONGO

Venice, CA

Mr. GOODBOY partnered with UK-based record label Mr Bongo at the Deus Emporium store for a month-long record store pop-up featuring vinyl from around the world.

The cart’s placement acted as a transition point between the store’s coffee shop where customers spent most of their time and their retail store. The cart was able to pull people in to not only check out our record selection but also to check out what else Deus had to offer.

ACE HOTEL & SWIM CLUB

Palm Springs, CA

We created a property-wide record program, including a curated selection of records for sale at the front desk and an in-lobby Record Cart that allowed the staff to soundtrack the property and guests to audition and purchase records. We refreshed the collection on a monthly basis, mixing our own selection of classic LPs with featured labels including Numero Group, Leaving Records, and Aloha Got Soul, among others. During Coachella, we collaborated with the property to facilitate programming around the cart including DJ sets, artist appearances, and live performances.

ROBERT GLASPER

(Blue Note Jazz Club)
New York City

Legendary GRAMMY-winning artist Robert Glasper staged a month-long residency at the Blue Note in New York to celebrate the release of his new album Fuck Yo Feelings featuring guest performances by everyone from Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and Esperanza Spalding to tributes to Stevie Wonder and J Dilla. We worked with his label, Loma Vista Recordings, to position the cart outside the venue for each show, offering a selection of test pressings and limited edition items for sale while fans waited to get in.

BEST MADE CO. x LIGHT IN THE ATTIC RECORDS

Los Angeles, CA & Austin, TX

In partnership with Light In The Attic Records, we created a record store pop-up inside Best Made Co.’s flagship Los Angeles store to showcase the label’s storied output and their universe of over 200+ like-minded distributed labels. The successful partnership drove increased sales and inspired a second collaboration with Light In The Attic for Best Made’s Outpost in Austin, TX that premiered at SXSW 2019.

JAPANESE CRAFT BEER TOUR

San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco

In partnership with the Japanese government, we embarked upon a multi-city West Coast tour to promote their craft brew industry. Our cart functioned as the musical centerpiece of the events, anchoring the tasting experience with the authentic musical stylings of Japanese City Pop, jazz, and ambient albums. Our record curation was provided by collectors and staff DJs, Phil Cho and Ryan Wilson, as well as world-renowned collector, Norio Sato, of Record Shop Rare Groove in Osaka.

HEAT-WAVE x LA METRO

(Union Station)
Los Angeles, CA

We were invited by LA Metro and local party-starters, Heat-Wave, to celebrate the third anniversary of their legendary dancefloor-filling nights at LA club, Gold Diggers. We provided a culturally diverse selection of rare original Japanese pressings of City Pop classics for sale and for the enjoyment of the crowd at LA’s Union Station, curated by world renowned record store, Record Shop Rare Groove (Osaka, JP).

THE GOOD LIVER x RARE GROOVE

Los Angeles, CA

The Good Liver is a lifestyle store located in the burgeoning Arts District of Los Angeles that curates a selection of fine artisanal and handmade goods from around the world. We collaborated with them to bring a selection of rare original vinyl LPs to their store for a residency and series of events and “record drops” that drove traffic to the store and resulted in the best sales months in the history of their shop.

AVEN APARTMENTS

Los Angeles, CA

We worked with Aven Apartments, a private luxury complex in Downtown Los Angeles, to provide curated music experiences for their residents to enjoy. During our visits, we hung out on the rooftop deck and soundtracked members-only cocktail hours, chatted with residents about records, paired with local food vendors for unique pop-ups, and even provided the spooky audio backdrop for their annual Halloween party and costume contest.

ARCLIGHT CINEMAS

Hollywood, CA

We worked in cooperation with ArcLight Cinemas on two in-theater programs, one for the Laurel Canyon music documentary Echo In The Canyon, which featured one of our Record Carts as the centerpiece of the exclusive afterparty for the film’s premiere screening, which we soundtracked with music exclusively from the film and the year 1969 (Byrds, Beach Boys, Buffalo Springfield, etc). Our second engagement at Arclight Hollywood was at the premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, where we stocked the cart exclusively with soundtracks from Tarantino’s films and original copies of albums made famous by his use of music in film (e.g. The Delfonics, Nancy Sinatra, etc).
